Alan R. Klestadt assists his clients in structuring their transactions in order to minimize customs duties, ensure regulatory compliance and eliminate customs penalty exposure. He has extensive experience in managing compliance reviews and developing strategies to maximize import opportunities. He is experienced in handling complex investigations, audits and penalty matters including False Claims Act cases involving the evasion of customs and antidumping duties. He also provides guidance on regulatory and legislative proposals that impact his clients’ businesses.
The focus of Mr. Klestadt’s practice is the development of strategic solutions to maximize the customs and tax opportunities attendant to his clients’ international transactions. He travels frequently to meet with clients and the parties they do business with in order to facilitate the resolution of his clients’ interests.
Mr. Klestadt is a licensed customs broker and lectures extensively on issues relating to customs valuation, import strategy and regulatory compliance. He served as Customs Counsel to the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America for over 15 years.
Mr. Klestadt is the author of “Using a Power of Attorney,” 3rd Edition (2009), Customhouse Brokerage for License Applicants; Minimizing Customs Duties and Customs Law Survey: “Making The Law Work For You.”
