GDLSK Promotes Neil S. Helfand to Partner

NEW YORK—January 9, 2025—Grunfeld Desiderio Lebowitz Silverman & Klestadt LLP is pleased to announce that Neil S. Helfand has been promoted to partner, effective January 1, 2025.

 

At GDLSK, Helfand advises clients on both customs and international trade issues, drawing in part on his experience with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He counsels on matters including country of origin requirements, tariff classification and valuation, supply chain security, free trade agreements, seizures, and complex penalty investigations. He has extensive experience setting up first-sale and other duty savings initiatives as well as internal compliance programs.

Before entering private practice, Helfand served as an attorney with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Office of Regulations and Rulings in Washington, D.C. and as an information specialist focused on illicit trade issues in the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress. He also previously served as a trade and customs manager with a big four accounting firm, advising on a range of customs issues and auditing companies’ compliance with U.S. Customs, FDA, and USDA regulations.

In addition to maintaining his legal practice, Helfand also serves as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and has studied at the U.S. Naval War College. He received a B.A. in history from Binghamton University, an M.A. in international relations from the American University School of International Service, and his J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law.
