Edward B. Ackerman


Edward Ackerman is a partner in the New York office. He began his legal career as a staff attorney with the United States Customs Service, Office of Regulations and Rulings. His practice focuses on a variety of customs and trade issues, with specialization in customs surety bonds, valuation structuring for duty reduction, export control law and liquidated damages/penalty claims. He regularly represents clients before US Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Commerce, the State Department and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. He is counsel to the Customs Surety Association and meets regularly with Customs management officials in the finance and revenue area to address issues of concern to the customs surety industry. He represents clients in such diverse areas as wearing apparel, toys and hobby crafts, footwear, handbags and luggage, chemicals, electronic equipment, the customs brokerage industry and the surety bond sector of the insurance industry.
